3 Tips to Keep Your Factory Stairs Safe

Posted on

In your factory, it is important to work to keep your employees as safe as possible. Along with things like putting your employees through safety training and ensuring that your machinery is as safe as possible, you also have to keep an eye on simple things like your stairs. To help prevent accidents, make sure that you follow these three simple yet important tips.

1. Install Proper Railings

First and foremost, you should make sure that you have proper railings in place for your employees to grab onto. Not only will these railings help make the stairs safer, but they'll also help you ensure that you are staying in line with all of the safety regulations that are in place in your area. Look for railings that are made for industrial use and that are nice and sturdy, such as railings that are made from steel.

2. Add Non-Slip Strips

There's a good chance that your employees' feet get wet during the workday. Plus, you have to worry about things getting spilled or spread when people are going up and down the stairs throughout the day. There is one thing that you can do to help make the stairs safer -- you can add non-slip strips to each step. Then, the strips will help provide extra grip which can help prevent slipping and sliding. It's also a good idea to ask your employees to wear slip-proof shoes to help cut down on accidents on the stairs and throughout the rest of the factory.

3. Apply Paint to Dangerous Areas

Carefully inspect your stairs for areas that might be dangerous. Steps that turn to the left or right, or steps that are taller or shorter than the rest can all pose a potential for tripping. If you can't make changes to your stairs to help prevent these dangerous areas, then your best course of action is to mark them off so that people will know to be careful. For example, you can add red or yellow paint to these potentially hazardous stairs to help grab attention and let people know to be careful.

In your factory, your stairs probably see a lot of feet each day. If you want to keep your employees safe, you have to make sure that they are as safe as possible. Following these tips can help you keep them in great condition so that you don't have to worry as much about accidents. Talk to a professional like Iron Horse Welding Inc.
